The IEEE Council on Superconductivity, CSC, promotes programs and activities that cover the science and technology of superconductors and their applications. Superconducting applications span the range from small scale analog and digital circuits and systems, to large scale applications such as MRI, High Energy Physics, Fusion, and electrical power generation, storage and transmission. Applications include the development and enhancement of the associated materials.

The Council on Superconductivity is sponsored by the following IEEE Societies:

- Communications
- Components, Packaging, and Manufacturing Technology
- Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation
- Electron Devices
- Instrumentation and Measurement
- Magnetics
- Microwave Theory and Techniques
- Power and Energy
- Reliability
- Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control

The Council on Superconductivity sponsors the following awards, prizes and fellowships:

- IEEE Award for Continuing and Significant Contributions to Applied Superconductivity
- The Max Swerdlow IEEE Award for Sustained Service to the Applied Superconductivity Community
- The IEEE Council on Superconductivity Van Duzer Best Paper Award
- The IEEE Carl H. Rosner Entrepreneurial Award
- The IEEE Council on Superconductivity Graduate Study Fellowships

The following will be presented at MT-23 on Monday morning, July 15, 2013, prior to the plenary session:

- IEEE Award for Continuing and Significant Contributions in the Field of Applied Superconductivity

- IEEE Max Swerdlow Award for Sustained Service to the Applied Superconductivity Community
